With the Cheltenham Festival just around the corner, Byrne has once again turned heads by making an unusual purchase to encourage punters to back their horses with FitzBet.
Labelled a ‘bold move’ by irishracing.com editor Vincent Finegan, Bynre has purchased Sean Graham’s Cheltenham Rails Pitch for £325,000. This location is considered a prestigious one for taking bets during the World Championships of horse racing.
Further to the purchase, famous pundit and former bookmaker Johnny Dineen will be taking bets at the pitch, which is likely to attract a large number of punters to bet with Fitzbet.
On an episode of the Irish Angle, Johnny Ward and editor Vincent Finegan spoke about the Fitzwilliam Sports purchase and objectives:
Ward said: “There’s definitely a lot of thought put into this. A lot of people will gravitate towards Johnny Dineen.
Vincent Finegan very positive about the launch of FitzBet “How the Cheltenham ring performs this year will be fascinating. Everything Paul Byrne does - buying horses, campaigning them, or in business is compelling. This is just another example.”
“Part of this move, I’d say, is publicity - brand promotion.
“Paul wants more customers but it’s a lot of money. I had written off the betting ring but it will be really intriguing to see how the Cheltenham ring does this year."
Vincent Finegan added: “There seems to be some green shoots in recent months - the racecourse attendances have been up and so have the bookmaker figures on track. Maybe there is some green light there.”
