Formscan By Alan Magee - CARMERS is just preferred to Tennessee Stud in what appears a decent renewal of this Listed race. The Paddy Twomey-trained colt progressed well last year completing a hat-trick in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and ran well subsequently in defeat including when fifth behind Scandinavia in the St Leger at Doncaster. He should benefit from a reappearance outing behind the same rival at Navan last month. Tennessee Stud was third behind Lambourn in the Betfred Derby and like the selection scored at Group 2 level last term over 1m7f at Longchamp. Dallas Star likes to force the pace and finished ahead of the selection in the Vintage Crop at Navan last month.

Quotes on Carmers (IRE)
I was very happy with the way he did it in Ballinrobe. He's a horse that just does what he has to do, hence he wears headgear. I thought he would run a good race in Ballinrobe and thought he would finish the race well but he surprised me with how well he won: Donagh (O'Connor, jockey then) said he had to go down the back straight to pull him up. He came home, licked the pot, rode out this week, didn't care, and as the week went on, it became clear that he was ready to go. we were keen to get a lead, we knew we'd stay and while ordinarily we might have made the running, I don't think likes being in front too long. When he went to the front, to be fair to him, he picked up and rallied. He's keeping plenty for himself so I'd say there's plenty in him. The Queen's Vase in Royal Ascot is probably the right race for him: he's a stayer and has enough experience to go to a race like that. I was thrilled when Fiona (Carmichael, Carmers’ owner) asked us to train for her and she kindly sent me this horse. She has been very patient with me.After Carmers (IRE) finished 1st at Navan on Sat, 17th May 2025 1m 5f Flat Good

Quotes on Layfayette (IRE)
I had him in the 1m2f handicap today but lately he’s been jumping (from stalls) so slowly and travelling very lethargically early in his races. I’ve had to change his whole training regime and now he does a lot of his work on his own. We sent him off to our second gallop, which is five furlongs round, which he canters around and then breezes up the hill. He also leads the two-year-olds sometimes or works with something he can beat, which he seems to be absolutely delighted about - you can see him laughing at them! . I wondered would he get today’s 1m6f trip but he did and Colin said he’d probably get two miles, but that you’d have to play with him. We’ll trick along and I think I’ll keep him at longer trips. He's been a great horse but unfortunately his owner Paul (Hunt) died a couple of years ago so he runs in his wife Patricia’s name. We had a good few horses for the family but we’ve only two left now, this fella and Tell Nobody Nothin. After Layfayette (IRE) finished 1st at Curragh on Fri, 3rd Apr 2026 1m 6f Flat Soft to Heavy

Quotes on Alba Chiara (IRE)
The pedigree suggested the step up in trip. We took our time with her. The last time in Ballinrobe we just have to draw a line through that race - nothing worked out for her and she didn't handle the track. She obviously likes a good galloping track, so we thought we would take the chance and try to step her up now. She is going to be a staying mare and she is going to improve again from three to four. The pedigree suggests she stays. She was a big filly all along and we had to take our time with her. We think she is going to be a nice filly. The idea is, if we don't sell her, to keep her in training. Hopefully, that will open up a window for the jumping. We were considering to go to Newmarket Sales or the mares' sales in November with her. We will see how that goes, if there is any interest. After Alba Chiara (IRE) finished 1st at Down Royal on Fri, 5th Sep 2025 2m 2f Flat Hcap Good
