The 44-year-old was promoted from set-piece coach to the top job and became just the seventh Irishman to manage a Premier League side and the first since Chris Hughton left Brighton in 2019.

Nathan Collins (CB)

The most expensive Irishman of all time, Nathan Collins, joined Brentford from Wolves for £23million in July 2023, breaking the previous record of £20.5million when Wolves signed him from Burnley the summer before. The 24-year-old was the only outfield player to play every single minute of the 2024-25 campaign and has been named as the new club captain after Christian Norgaard’s move to Arsenal.

Caoimhin Kelleher (GK)

After years of impressing as Alisson’s understudy at Liverpool, Caoimhin Kelleher finally flew the Anfield nest this summer, making the £18million move to Brentford. The 26-year-old should make the number one shirt his own at the G-Tech Community Stadium and continue to impress in west London.

Burnley

Josh Cullen (CM)

Josh Cullen was a key player as Burnley achieved automatic promotion last season, starting 43 of 46 Championship games and has now been named club captain after Josh Brownhill’s departure. The 42-capped international will be hoping he can play a major role in Burnley avoiding relegation in 2025-26.

Everton

Seamus Coleman (RB)

Seamus Coleman is the Everton and Ireland captain
The Ireland and Everton captain is a certified Premier League legend with his 369 games putting him fifth in the list of all-time appearances among players still active in the league. Now 36, Coleman is slowing down as injuries take their toll. He made just five top-flight appearances last term, but his influence off the pitch cannot be understated.

Jake O’Brien (CB)

Jake O’Brien returned to England after a spell with Lyon last summer but struggled for game time under Sean Dyche. The 6ft 6in defender's luck changed with David Moyes’ arrival. The 24-year-old started 16 of Moyes' 18 Premier League games in charge and offers versatility with the ability to play at right-back and centre-back.

Mark Travers (GK)

Mark Travers moved to Merseyside from Bournemouth in the summer. The 26-year-old played 24 Premier League games for Bournemouth, but he may have to wait to add to that tally with England number one Jordan Pickford ahead of him in the pecking order at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Newcastle

Alex Murphy (LB)

A product of Galway United, Alex Murphy moved to Newcastle United in the summer of 2023. The 21-year-old has played twice for Eddie Howe’s side and spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Bolton Wanderers in League One, where he scored twice in 13 appearances.

Wolves

Matt Doherty (RB)

In his second spell at Wolves, Matt Doherty has made over 370 appearances for the Midlands club. The 33-year-old is still a regular in the side, operating on the right of a back three and his more customary position of right wing-back. With former captain Nelson Semedo moving to Besiktas, Doherty is likely to be named as the club’s new skipper, making him the fourth Irish captain in England’s top flight.

Nathan Fraser (ST)

Nathan Fraser played seven times for Wolves in the Premier League during the 2023-24 season but was unable to kick on last term. The 20-year-old returned to Molineux in January after managing just four appearances without a goal for SV Zulte Waregem in the Belgian Pro League.

Max O’Leary (GK)

Bristol City academy graduate Max O’Leary was another key player in their impressive 2024-25 campaign. The 28-year-old started every league last season, and the season before, with his form earning him an international debut in the summer.

Luke McNally (CB)

Completing Bristol City’s Irish spine last season, Luke McNally’s season came to a premature end in February after he suffered an ACL injury. The 25-year-old is not expected to feature again until November, at the earliest.

Sinclair Armstrong (ST)

Sinclair Armstrong earned his only international cap while at QPR in September 2023 and made the move to Bristol City a year later. The 22-year-old scored three goals in 38 appearances, with over half of those coming from the bench, in his first season at Ashton Gate.

Mark Sykes (RM)

Belfast-born Mark Sykes has seven caps for Ireland and has enjoyed a steady rise throughout his career. Another key player in Bristol City’s impressive 2024-25 campaign, Sykes missed the play-offs with a quad injury, which also ruled him out of Ireland’s summer friendlies.

Charlton Athletic

Conor Coventry (CM)

Conor Coventry played a key role as Charlton Athletic were promoted from League One last season, featuring in 52 games. The 25-year-old earned a record 28 caps for Ireland’s Under-21s and also captained the side. He received a first call-up to the senior squad this year but is yet to make his senior bow.

Hull City

John Egan (CB)

John Egan moved to Hull City from Burnley in January. Best known for his role in Sheffield United’s recent seasons in the Premier League, the 32-year-old is an experienced campaigner and still a regular for his country and has captained them in the absence of Coleman.

Harry Vaughan (AM)

With 70 senior games in England at the tender age of 21, 2025-26 may be a breakout season for Harry Vaughan. Hull’s off-field troubles may see them turn to the Ireland youngster who has impressed in pre-season.

James Furlong (LB)

James Furlong, formerly of Brighton and Shamrock Rovers, spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon. Now 23, the left-back has played just once for Hull in his two years in East Yorkshire.

Szmodics, who qualifies for Ireland through his grandmother, has 10 international caps.

Kasey McAteer (RW)

With one Grandmother from Belfast and another from Offaly, Kasey McAteer earned international recognition in 2024 as he played a key role in Leicester City’s Championship title-winning campaign. The 23-year-old joined fellow relegated side Ipswich Town this season, bolstering their already strong Irish connections.

Chiedozie Ogbene (RW)

Chiedozie Ogbene also moved to Ipswich Town last summer but managed just six appearances before suffering a serious Achilles injury. The 24-capped international has featured for Ipswich in pre-season and is now fully fit.

Jack Taylor (CM)

After helping Ipswich earn promotion to the Premier League, Jack Taylor was reduced to a bit-part role last season, starting just four top-flight games. The 27-year-old did earn four international caps last season after previously featuring for the Under-21s.

Middlesborough

Alan Browne (CM)

After helping Sunderland win promotion last season, Alan Browne moved across the north-east this summer, joining Middlesborough on a season-long loan on deadline day. The 37-capped international is an experienced Championship head with his season at the Stadium of Light preceded by 10-and-a-half years of loyal service to Preston North End where he was club captain. The Cork City academy graduate is likely to fill the void left by Finn Azaz following his move to Southampton.

Darragh Lenihan (CB)

Darragh Lenihan last played for Middlesbrough back in September 2023 but returned to the bench for Middlesbrough’s final three Championship games. The 31-year-old has featured in pre-season but Rob Edwards’ plan is to manage his workload in the opening months of the campaign.

Aidomo Emakhu (LW)

Aidomo Emakhu moved from Shamrock Rovers to Millwall in January 2023, but remains a fringe player. The 21-year-old has played over 50 times for the Lions but only 14 of those have come in the starting XI.

Norwich City

Shane Duffy (CB)

Shane Duffy’s Norwich City future is in doubt under new manager Liam Manning despite starting 45 of his side’s 46 Championship games last season and captaining the side on a number of occasions. The 33-year-old is still a regular for his country but will likely need a new club side if he wants to continue his international career.

Tony Springett (RW)

It remains to be seen when Tony Springett will return to first-team action. The 22-year-old’s only appearance last season came for Norwich City’s Under-21s, and he made the squad for the senior side on just two occasions. Springett did not feature for the Canaries in pre-season.

Oxford United

Tyler Goodrhman (RW)

Oxford United academy graduate Tyler Goodrhman was a regular in the side last season, and his form was impressive enough to earn a maiden call-up to the Ireland Under-21 squad. The 21-year-old has played over 100 times for his boyhood club, scoring 18 goals and assisting a further 13.

Portsmouth

Conor Shaughnessy (CB)

Conor Shaughnessy endured a frustrating campaign last season as Portsmouth returned to the Championship. The Galway-born defender played just nine second-tier games due to injury, but has featured regularly in pre-season and will be hoping to be a regular this season.

Robbie Brady won Ireland's men player of the year for 2024-25
Robbie Brady signed a new one-year deal with Preston North End this summer after making 31 appearances last term. Towards the end of last term, the 33-year-old played a more central role in the Lilywhites’ midfield, and that may be where he features this term. He remains a key player for Ireland despite his advancing years and was named as national team player of the year in 2024.

Will Keane (ST)

Stockport-born Will Keane won the last of his five Ireland caps in 2023 and looks unlikely to add to his tally. The 32-year-old managed just three goals in 30 appearances for North End last term as he struggled with injury, and there are rumours he could be on the move before the end of the transfer window.

Josh Seary (RB)

Josh Seary was handed a new six-month contract by North End this summer as he continues to recover from injury. The two-time Ireland under-19 international suffered a serious knee injury while on loan for Larne last term.

Adam Idah (ST)

Adam Idah secured a late move from Celtic to Swansea City in the summer. The 24-year-old scored 29 times in 76 games for the Glasgow giants but did not enough to convince Brendan Rodgers and fans he was capable of being the club's number nine. A move to Swansea sees him return to the Championship after coming through Norwich City's academy.

QPR

Jimmy Dunne (CB)

Jimmy Dunne won QPR’s Supporters Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year award last season and was rewarded with a new contract this summer, with his previous deal set to expire. The 27-year-old’s form was also rewarded with a first Ireland cap in March 2025.

Sheffield Untied

Tom Cannon (ST)

Tom Cannon is yet to establish himself at Sheffield United following his move from Leicester City in January. The 21-year-old has scored just once in 17 appearances for Sheffield United, although nine of those came from the bench. With a significant shake-up in the Blades’ squad this summer, Cannon could rediscover his form that previously saw him score 19 goals in 55 Championship games for Preston North End, Leicester and Stoke City.

Sam Curtis (RB)

Sam Curtis was the youngest player in League of Ireland history, when he made his St. Pat’s debut at the age of just 15 in August 2021. Fast forward four years and the defender is now on the cusp of a Sheffield United breakthrough. The fifteen-time Ireland Under-21 international spent last season on loan at Peterborough and St Johnstone in Scotland.

Stoke City

Bosun Lawal (CB)

Former Celtic man, Bosun Lawal moved to Stoke City in the summer of 2024 but endured an injury-hit first season. Mark Robbins described the 22-year-old as “looking like Beckenbauer” in pre-season as he suggested the Dubliner could feature in defence and midfield this season.

Jack Bonham (GK)

Evan Ferguson is on loan at Roma for the 2025-26 season
Former Ireland Under-17 international Jack Bonham is an experienced professional but has transitioned into a back-up role at Stoke City. The 31-year-old is again expected to play second fiddle to Viktor Johansson this term after being limited to two appearances in cup competitions last season.

Southampton

Gavin Bazunu (GK)

Injuries have harmed the career of Gavin Bazunu, who once looked to have the potential to carry on his career away from Southampton. Mikey Johnston (LW)

Mikey Johnston was linked with a sensational move to Brazilian side Flamengo, who reached the last 16 of the Club World Cup, but that reportedly fell through due to fan backlash. Flamengo fans can be forgiven for not having heard of Johnston, but he has been impressive at West Brom since moving to the Hawthorns from Celtic, initially on loan in January 2024.
