The latter won three times on the Flat for Hugo Palmer and has been sent hurdling by current connections since purchased for 34,000 guineas at the Horses In Training Sale in Newmarket last autumn. He showed promise at this venue in April when beating all bar hot-pot Lethal Steps and would have gone close subsequently but for a mistake at the last at Killarney. Bachelor had a similar level of form on the Flat winning on the all-weather at Kempton for Joseph O’Brien. He was in the process of running a big race when falling at the last in the maiden won by the ill-fated Sir Erec at Leopardstown last Christmas, and was placed twice last month including when touched off by Paddy Buns at Kilbeggan. The Last Emperor needs to step up on the form of his two hurdle runs in the spring but did run well off a mark of 85 in the valuable Ragusa Handicap at the Curragh last time. Indian Admiral shaped well on his hurdling debut at Down Royal.
