Floueur led home an usual 1-2-2 for trainer Gordon Elliott in Fairyhouse's opening Get A Run BetVictor Beginners Chase today, escaping with victory despite jumping the final fence 'like a bag of hammers'.
The 136-rated French-bred led approaching the last but put-down at the obstacle, pitching jockey Jordan Gainford into the air, and bumped Grand Paradis on landing.
Racecourse commentary Jerry Hannon aptly described the action as 'Floueur made a mistake, jumped it like a bag of hammers!' but to Floueur's credit he rallied well on the run-in.
At the line Floueur held on for a half a length win from stablemates Grand Paradis and fast-finishing Frontal Assault who dead-heated for second-place.
Afterwards jockey Gainford reported “he jumped well apart from the last where he just took a bit of a look. He picked up well again and is a lovely horse going forward.
“He’d some lovely runs behind him and it’s great to put it all together here today.
“He handled the ground conditions and they went a nice even gallop. I took the bull by the horns turning in as he’s a big galloper and did it well.”
