Gary Carroll was seen to good effect when partnering Sh Boom to land the featured Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap at Gowran Park.
The former champion apprentice is enjoying a good season and is already on the 17 winner mark this term after the Ger Lyons-trained filly justified good support (25/1 into 12/1).
The daughter of War Command led early in the straight but was strongly pressed by Acquiescent inside the final furlong and just found enough close home to prevail by a head, with Sindhia three quarters of a length away in third.
Lyons’ brother and assistant Shane said, “Gary is a big part of our team and he was very good on her. He knows her well and said he’d go wide in the straight and let her on her own as she seems to enjoy that.
“He said he got to the front too soon thinking she wants a mile. She found the line and we were delighted to get the win.
“They have done a great job on the ground. I walked every blade of it before racing and it is the same right across the track. Gary had a plan and it worked.”
