Getaway Charlie was out of form but dropped down the grades and had cheekpieces on today. He seemed to be coming into form at home, he travelled and jumped everywhere, they went a good gallop early and that suited. He likes to be passing horses and everything worked out well. I probably got there a bit soon but I was going so easy I said I may as well keep going with him. It’s great to ride a winner for my father. That’s my 7lb claim gone as well and it’s great to do it for him. I’m at home three or four days a week and you can see all the hard work that goes into it. It’s hard to come by winners in Ireland so it’s mighty.

I had a race in Dundalk in mind for him but said I'd run today even though he was 7lb out-of-the-handicap. He'll get the 7lb (penalty) now, and whatever else, but is a tough little horse and I couldn't believe he got up. The Dundalk race is a two-mile 0-60 handicap: the course mightn't suit but we'll run him if he gets in.

We are after having so many seconds in the last nine weeks and we had two or three winners. The mare before that was second. I said to some of the boys, 'maybe my seconds are going to stop'. I thought Paddy was very good there. He took his time and came out for the better ground jumping the last two. She is tough and it was great. She has been knocking on the door and going up in the handicap. I'm delighted to have a winner after all those seconds and thirds in the last nine weeks. They are running well, just I was finding it hard to get my head in front. It gets in your head and after a while you think should you be doing something different?. It’s nice at the age of eight when they hit a bit of form,. I love the idea of training horses that can stay going season after season. He was running at two and has run every year from two to eight. I do like the concept of a horse winning at 10 or 11, horses that want to do it and enjoy doing it over a period of time. You’d wonder did he want to do it at times because he has refused to race several times. He planted at the start last year in Thurles and stayed in the stalls at Dundalk and Gowran. He got suspended for one of his days in Thurles. There have been plenty of times he’s been out of love with the game and we’ve just tried to coax him back into it.

Finally she has won, although she was running a good race when she fell at Limerick the last day. The form of that race has stood up well as the runner-up Set The Tone won the earlier division of today's race. She had a lovely weight and Josh claimed 7lb off her, although was in front a little early. In fairness to her, she stayed going and this is Josh's first winner for me and is good value for his claim. She had finished second in this race last year and likes it around here. It is great to get Dom's (Delaney, owner) first winner and he is a north Kilkenny man who bought this mare last year.

She eventually put her jumping together. I think it was August here last year, we thought she was a certainty in a handicap chase and she unseated Keith (Donoghue) at the fourth. She's a good, fun mare. I was just saying that's her 19th run for us, and she has only been out of the prize money five times and two of those were unseats. She's a great mare, she's not over-big. We knew they would go hard, so I said to Conor to take his time and just concentrate on getting her jumping. Fair chance she will come back here in October. She's back in a 0-100 hurdle as well, so she could come back for that.
