Things weren't working out for him early in the summer when he wasn't getting the rub of the green. We went chasing with him, that didn't work out and for a horse who jumps so well, you'd swear he never saw a fence in his life at Tramore one day. We decided to give him a little break to freshen him up and it worked. The ground is lovely, but is as quick as he wants it. Hopefully there will be another one in him before he gets a break for the winter. He is a small handy horse who is one of the favourites in the yard, is really genuine and a child would ride him.

I thought he’d win on his handicap debut at Kilbeggan and Richie just got sandwiched in between two horses going down to the last. Then we went to Tramore and it was a bit short for him, he was running on at the finish. The last day everything went wrong, going left-handed around Wexford. I fancied him today and he put it right. Richie said he thought he was in for a bit of a bollocking down the back as I had said to him ‘don’t be any worse than mid-division as they are all winning from the front’. Down the back he was last and I’d say he knew he was in for it when he came in!. It worked out well. They probably went quick enough in front as they dropped back. Maybe after the earlier races everyone had the same thought, they wanted to be handy. It probably set up for him then, he was dead last the whole way until across the top. He won a point-to-point so he’s well able to jump fences. He actually probably jumps a fence better than hurdles but we had him handicapped and he was ready to go so we said we’d keep at it until he wins. He’ll probably go over fences now. Whether he’d handle bottomless ground, I don’t know, but we might have this for another month or two.

He had been running well,. He was fourth last time when the wee girl in the yard (Erin Dunseath) rode him and he ran a fair race for her. He probably just needs a staying track and the rain today, and the softer ground, suited him. He’s not fast and he’s probably not that genuine. but on slow ground when somebody takes him on, he can plug away. I told Carl to ride him as he finds him. He jumped well, I thought he made a couple of slight mistakes watching on TV but he said he jumped brilliantly. I told him to sit quiet, keep filling him up, and see how he goes. We bought him out of a claimer and he’s won three for us so we can’t complain. If every horse did that, you’d be okay.
