'His brain is just amazing' - Paddy Flood on what makes Dylan Browne McMonagle so special Dylan Browne McMonagle has been receiving wide acclaim for his talents in the saddle, most recently showcased when winning the Oaks at Epsom aboard Thundering On last week. Young, emerging sporting talents are always exciting and Browne McMonagle has dazzled at the Breeders’ Cup, in Hong Kong and across Europe in his short career. Already Champion Flat jockey in Ireland, Browne McMonagle has been hailed as one of the 'best we’ve ever seen' by irishracing.com’s leading analyst, Paddy Flood, a former jockey who has been watching the young talent since his pony racing days. A special talent On the latest episode of the Irish Angle, Flood said: “I would go as far as saying he's probably the best rider I've ever seen. I've seen him since he was probably seven or eight in the pony racing. “I rode for his uncle Adrian many moons ago myself. It's not surprising the ride he gave Thundering On in the Oaks. “He used to do that when he was about 10 years old riding ponies - he used to drop them in, slip through a field and land on the line and you're just thinking: “what age is this young lad?” “In my head, I don't know if I should say it, but I'm thinking that he's the next Lester Piggott, you know, he rides horses like that. “He's a bit taller, he's neat, he's tidy, but his brain is just amazing. And his ability to get horses to do what he wants is special. “He's a very, very special talent and he's a lovely fellow, too.” 'Sky's the limit' for Thundering On Flood was also full of praise for the first two home in the Oaks and continued: “The filly (Thundering On) was super impressive. I think the first and second are good fillies. “I'd say that Juddmonte filly (Legacy Link) is a good filly as well. She probably got there plenty soon, not from any mistake from Colin Keane, just the way the race developed. “It was still competitive sort of ground and she was really good, the sky's the limit for that one. “She hasn’t that many runs under her belt and I didn't fancy her at all. “I remember watching her in Navan and thinking, "Yeah, she looks a nice filly," but I didn't even fancy her to be placed. But jeez, she blew them apart.” Watch the Irish Angle in full
