'More progress to come' from Red Verdon Ed Dunlop feels there is more to come from Red Verdon after his sixth-placed finish in the Investec Derby. Supplemented after handicap wins at Chester and Haydock, the Lemon Drop Kid colt was not disgraced after meeting trouble in running. "I was very happy with Red Verdon's run in the Derby, they went very hard in the first part of the race and from the widest draw of all we had to take our time," Dunlop wrote on his blog. "We would have finished closer if he had followed US Army Ranger through as he met plenty of trouble up the rail but the first three finished a long way clear. "He has progressed rapidly in the last two months and we have to take heart that we have a very good colt in the yard. "We will map out a plan for him now for the rest of the campaign and given how he has kept improving, there should be more progress to come." Champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa was on board and he told At The Races: "He ran a blinder. "It just got a bit tight for room on the inside when they all went around the field. I went for precaution down the inside. "I think he'll just keep improving. He's a really nice horse, the penny hasn't really dropped with him yet but it might do now. "It felt like a nice race to me, it looked open but there was a lot of quality out there. "I think he'll get further."
