Wayne Lordan filled in for injured Ryan Moore on his second Curragh winner today, as Ballydoyle’s promising gelded-juvenile Mission Central (11/8f) made all to land the Group 3 Heider Family Stables Round Tower Stakes.

Bred by Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud, the well-bred son of No Nay Never was gelded having been wayward on his Dundalk debut in April and returned to land his maiden by eight lengths three weeks ago.

Today, Mission Central led racing at a strong pace and while much too keen, held on well in the closing stages from fast-finishing newcomer The Publican’s Son.

Winning trainer Aidan O’Brien commented “Wayne said - unusually, he was still green. He said he was there at halfway and he was waiting. He said he has a lot of natural speed.

“He learned a bit today, he had to get down and knuckle down. I’d say he’s quick, five would be no problem to him, and that’s slow ground.

“Wayne said he felt he was only hacking and the lads in the race felt they were flying, that’s the sign of a speed horse. I suppose he could be a Flying Childers type of horse, he’s very fast and I’d imagine that’s the type of horse he is.”

O’Brien and Lordan had earlier won the opener with Hawk Mountain
