1000 Guineas favourite beaten in France

Ante-post 1000 Guineas favourite Special Duty was surprisingly turned over in the Prix Imprudence at Maisons-Laffitte.

Criquette Head-Maarek's filly was last seen winning the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket and has been a hot-favourite for the Classic all winter.

Settled at the head of affairs by Stephane Pasquier, she could not shake off her pursuers and distress signals were being sent out inside the final furlong.

Jean-Claude Rouget's Joanna, third in the Marcel Boussac, quickened up impressively to win for Christophe Soumillon and even Evading Tempete went by the favourite for second.

As a result totesport pushed Special Duty out to 3-1 from 5-2 but she remains their market leader. The winner was cut into 16s from 25s.

StanJames.com 1000 Guineas - totesport bet: 3-1 Special Duty, 10-1 Seta, 16-1 Joanna, Lady Of The Desert, Music Show, Tabassum, 20-1 bar.
