17 FOR NATIONAL TRIAL

A total of 17 horses stood their ground today for Saturday`s Singer & Friedlander National Trial at Uttoxeter, of whom 12 are entered for the Martell Grand National itself.

But clerk of the course David McAllister has warned of the possibility of testing going at the Staffordshire track.

He said: 'The going is soft, we have had a touch of frost for the last three nights but has been gone by 1pm each day.

'The forecast is for a bit more rain this week so it is unlikely to be riding any quicker by the weekend, indeed it may be heavy in places so three and a half miles will be a good test.'

Young Kenny heads the weights on 12st but he will face stiff opposition having to give weight away to some useful rivals including Coral Welsh National winner Jocks Cross (11st 4lb) and Mark Pitman`s improving Smarty (10st 7lb).
