Aidan O'Brien has four possible contenders as he tries to land the Prix du Jockey Club for the first time at Chantilly on Sunday.

The Ballydoyle handler has left in Cape Clear Island, Highland Reel, War Envoy and Sir Isaac Newton, who runs at Gowran on Wednesday.

Karaktar is one of the star names among the 18 horses still in contention for the French Derby following the first forfeit stage.

The Aga Khan-owned-and-bred colt has made a flying start to his three-year-old career, winning a Saint-Cloud Listed prize by upwards of seven lengths before an impressive display in a Group Three contest at Longchamp last month.

The Aga Khan's stud manager Georges Rimaud is looking forward to seeing him test his powers in Classic company.

He said: "He worked (on Tuesday morning) and so far all the lights are green, so hopefully he can run at Chantilly.

"The draw is an always an issue, but that is in the hands of the gods.

"There is nothing we can do about it, so you wait until after the draw and make a plan to deal with it at the last minute.

"It will be interesting to see how he goes against better competition and in a bigger field."

Karaktar is likely to be trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre's sole contender for the mile-and-a-quarter contest as he bids to win the race for a seventh time.

Andre Fabre has Harlem and New Bay in the field, while other contenders include Prix Greffulhe winner Sumbal, who is also in contention for the Investec Derby at Epsom.
