Dermot Weld signed off a great evening at Galway with another winner in the finale, the Sean Cleary Memorial Maiden, Alveena bringing up a 636/1 four-timer for the yard in the hands of Pat Smullen.

Smullen rode two of the other winners too, like this one, Ebediyin , and Simannka , came in the Aga Khan silks.

Leigh Roche was the man aboard Weld's feature race victor, Zhukova , an event that saw a one, two for Weld at 6.35, Smullen coming home in second on Almela .

Alveena had narrowly failed at Wexford last time but she wasn't too be denied on this occasion, getting up to triumph over the dead-heaters, Fiorbheim , and Spin Point , by a length.

Well-backed favourite Deor could manage no better than eighth.

"She deserved that. She was a shade unlucky not to win at Wexford and she made up for it there to give us a nice four-timer," said Weld.

"She is rated 78 and she'll go for a handicap next."
