71 stand their ground in Irish Derby There are 71 colts remaining in contention for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby following today's forfeit stage. 35 are trained by Aidan O'Brien as he goes in search of a fourteenth win in the Classic. His son's Joseph and Donnacha are responsible for a further nine entries. Joseph who won the race in 2018 with Latrobe has seven while younger brother Donnacha has two. There are 11 UK entries which include the unbeaten colt Pinatubo trained by Charlie Appleby. It is unclear at this stage whether or not this horses will be permitted to travel. The race which had a shock 33/1 winner Sovereign last season is due to take place at the Curragh racecourse on Saturday 27 June and this will most likely be behind closed doors. Ireland's Coronavirus lockdown is set to be eased on May 5. It is expected that racing will get the green light to resume at some point later that month. Horse Racing Ireland is planning to start back with just Flat racing for one month behind closed doors and currently intend to stick to the scheduled dates for all Classics. The Irish Government announced yesterday that mass gatherings of 5,000 or more will not be permitted until at least September. View the entries here
