Trainer Gavin Cromwell followed up good recent results with a Premier Handicap success today, as 79-rated Fiver Friday (11/2) landed the Curragh’s €100,000 1xBet.ie Emerald Cup Handicap, on the first Good Friday race meeting to be held in Ireland.

Racing from 1lb out of the handicap under jockey Nathan Crosse in the 18-runner race, the Philip Gilmore-owned six-year-old mare travelled strongly through the 1m2f contest and quickened to score by 3.75 lengths from recent Lincoln winner Ribee .

Cromwell’s recent wins have come at Cheltenham, in the Thyestes Chase and in the Ulster and Leinster Nationals and he reported “Fiver Friday had been touched off a couple of times, so it’s a great day for her to get her head in front.

“She had been training well at home, I thought she’d run a big race and Nathan gave her a fine ride and she got plenty of luck in running.

“I have no plans. The handicapper is obviously going to have his say, so we’ll find another premier handicap somewhere. She could also go back over hurdles, but I’m not sure where we’ll go.”
