AINTREE TARGET AGAIN FOR MOSS

Mely Moss, runner-up in the Martell Grand National last season, is on course for another attempt at the race this April.

Trainer Charlie Egerton had been forced to send Mely Moss to Aintree without the benefit of a preparatory race last year, when he was beaten one and a quarter lengths by Papillon, but expects to have him back on the track in good time this season.

'We`re going for the National again and in a perfect world I would run him before Aintree,' said Egerton, who has not ruled out running Mely Moss, second to Elegant Lord in the Aintree Foxhunters in 1999, in hunter chases.

'It all depends on what races are around, Norman Williamson`s availability, the ground - it`s the imponderables.

'But I certainly wouldn`t think about anything like the Cheltenham Foxhunters.

'His target is the National and I haven`t ruled out running him in hunter chases afterwards.'

Mely Moss is a 25-1 chance for the Grand National with bookmakers William Hill.
