ANTLEY DEATH - FOUL PLAY RULED OUT

American jockey Chris Antley died of a drugs overdose, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said last night.

Injuries found on his body probably resulted from a fall while under the influence.

But several people close to Antley, including his friend and fellow jockey Gary Stevens, said they still believe he was murdered.

The rider's death on December 2nd in his Pasadena home was being investigated as homicide but the coroner's office and police no longer suspect foul play.

Neuropathology tests showed that none of his injuries was serious enough to be the cause of death.

Other tests found evidence of four drugs in the system of Antley, a 34-year-old who rode two Kentucky Derby winners but struggled for years with weight, substance abuse and depression.

But Ron Anderson, Antley's former agent, is unconvinced and told the Thoroughbred Times: "Somebody hit him with something. He didn't hit himself."

And Stevens added: "I'mnot surprised the coroner's report turned out the way it did. But I don't believe it. I hope they don't close the investigation."

Hours after the toxicology reports were released, Antley's wife Natalie Jowett gave birth to the couple's first child. She named the girl Violet.
