Abraham relished his first venture into handicap company over fences with a victory in Killarney for father and son duo Martin and Conor Brassil.

The nine-year-old gelding, who was successful three times over hurdles, hadn't been placed in four beginners' chases but did come fourth at Kilbeggan last month.

He made headway to pursue the leader Stylish Moment at the second last and led narrowly at the final fence.

The son of Hernando kept on best to see off Stylish Moment by three parts of a length.

The winner certainly didn't go unbacked as he was 20/1 this morning before going off at 9/1. The runner-up Stylish Moment was a 33/1 chance. Gold Creek was five lengths further adrift in third at 12/1.

Jockey Conor Brassil said: “He got into a bit of trouble early but he’s gutsy and kept at it. Into the straight I just wanted to follow something down to the last. When he hit the front after the last he started to idle.

“He came on well from his last run in KIlbeggan and hopefully we can find another race soon.

“He wants the ground as quick as he can get.”
