Acapella out for redemption at Navan Acapella Bourgeois gets a second chance to open his account for Willie Mullins in the Foxrock Handicap Chase at Navan on Saturday. Formerly trained by the now-retired Sandra Hughes, the seven-year-old was backed as if defeat was almost out of the question in the Troytown here a fortnight ago, but only made it as far as the seventh fence. Plenty of punters will be aiming to recoup those losses this weekend on a horse that was previously considered a possible Cheltenham Gold Cup contender, but it will not be a straightforward task. Mullins is also represented by Polidam further down the weights, while Noel Meade's Apache Stronghold, Stuart Crawford's Fine Rightly and Anthony Curran's veteran Flemenstar add further strength in depth to an intriguing contest. Jett and Tombstone lock horns in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Klairon Davis Novice Chase. The Grade Three contest is named in honour of Arthur Moore's popular two-mile chaser who won 20 of his 54 races, including the Arkle Trophy and the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in the mid-1990s. Four runners will go to post for the feature event, but on paper at least, it looks a two-horse race. Jessica Harrington's Jett, who is out of the same mare who produced Champion Hurdle hero Jezki and Grade One scorers Jered and Jetson, was a useful sort over hurdles, but already looks like scaling greater heights over fences. Following an encouraging chase debut at Naas, the six-year-old opened his account in some style at Thurles last month and merits this step up in class. The Gordon Elliott-trained Tombstone was mooted as a potential Champion Hurdle candidate earlier in the year. His form tapered off in the spring, but he has won once and finished second twice over fences so far this season, most recently being narrowly beaten by Woodland Opera in the Craddockstown Novice Chase at Punchestown. This represents a drop in class, but in Jett he faces a worthy opponent and there might not be much to choose between the pair. Elliott's Dortmund Park is likely to be a warm order in the opening Kells Maiden Hurdle. The son of Great Pretender was unbeaten in two starts in French bumpers and presumably cost Gigginstown House Stud a pretty penny. Mullins saddles Cap D'Aubois and Invitation Only in the Mervyn Gray Construction Beginners Chase, but both have the Ted Walsh-trained Any Second Now to beat.
