Action completes quick cross-card double for O'Brien Just minutes after the success of Isaac Newton at Goodwood, Aidan O'Brien quickly doubled-up with Action in the Whiriskey Refrigeration Irish EBF Maiden. Coincidentally, the pair were second and third behind stable companion New Zealand on debut at the Curragh last month. Sent off the clear 4/9 favourite (drifted from 4/11) this afternoon, Action, who is a half-brother to dual Derby hero Lambourn, made all under Wayne Lordan. Ridden and tackled by Perisher in the straight, he pulled out more in the closing stages to beat that rival by a length-and-a-quarter. The runner-up, who lost little in defeat on debut, was returned at 13/2 under Dylan Browne McMonagle for Joseph O'Brien, while fellow newcomer Christmas Day (11/2), a stable companion of the winner, was another four-lengths away in third. "Wayne knows the family inside out and they have been very good to him," Chris Armstrong, stable representative, reflected. "He is a smashing colt, he had a lovely run at the Curragh first-time out and just five minutes before this race jumped off, the horse that finished ahead of him (Isaac Newton) won at Goodwood, so I'd say it was a very strong maiden. "It was his first time out in front and he was very green and raw but once he asked him, he found the line well. "You probably won't see the best of him until he goes up in trip and is now in the mix for something like the Golden Fleece on Champions Weekend and then maybe a Racing Post Trophy or another Group 1 in France. "Wayne said once he pulled up, he took one puff, chilled and walked back calmly. He has the right attitude and if he follows in his brother's footsteps he'll be nice." STEWARDS REPORTS * The Raceday Stewards reviewed an incident in the straight involving Adel (GER), ridden by R.P. Whelan, where it appeared he had to take a check. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted. * At the request of the Raceday Stewards, R.P. Whelan, rider of Adel (GER), trained by M.D. O'Callaghan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green early and had to take a precautionary check in the straight. * At the request of the Raceday Stewards, J.A. Heffernan, rider of Monvoe, trained by R.P.Cody, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran very free. Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes
