Aga Khan lands fabulous four-timer

The Aga Khan sealed a memorable weekend at Longchamp as he enjoyed a Group One four-timer on Sunday courtesy of Rosanara, Siyouni, Shalanaya and Alandi.

The owner visited the winner's enclosure three times on the opening day of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting, but he went one better on the feature card.

The Alain de Royer-Dupre-trained Rosanara got the ball rolling and earned a 7-1 quote for next year's 1000 Guineas with a convincing success in the Total Prix Marcel Boussac.

Despite stumbling out of the stalls and pulling hard early on for Christophe Soumillon, Rosanara had little trouble down the straight and pulled away from On Verra.

De Royer-Dupre said: "She showed really good acceleration and she must have a very big heart because she is very small physically.

"It is likely we will aim her for the Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) next season."

Siyouni completed the big juvenile double as Gerald Mosse delivered him with a perfectly-timed challenge in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

De Royer-Dupre added: "He learned a good lesson in his last race and was very fresh and needed to be tucked in behind. Everything has gone perfectly.

"I imagine he will start off over a mile next season but I don't know if that will be in England or France."

The treble was completed as Shalanaya, trained by Mikel Delzangles and ridden by Maxime Guyon, won the Qatar Petroleum Prix de l'Opera, with Henry Cecil's Midday only third.

It was then left to Alandi to spoil the party for staying star Yeats, who could finish only third in the Qatar Prix du Cadran.

The Ballydoyle runner was bringing the curtain down on a tremendous career but he could not bow out in a blaze of glory as the Mick Kinane-ridden and John Oxx-trained Alandi proved best on the day.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien said: "It's a big relief as there was always a danger he might get hurt or something.

"We will never find another like him - he's a once-in-a-lifetime horse."
