The Mark Fahey-trained I Bid You Ajou stayed on strongly in the closing stages to land the opening Royal Country Optional Claimer at Fairyhouse.

Gavin Ryan got a nice run through on the inner to lead two furlongs from home and soon asked his mount to maintain that position.

The 4/1 shot kept on well inside the final furlong to post a length-and-a-quarter success over Nezeeh

It was a first career success for the Shalaa gelding, on his 16th outing.

Fahey said:- “It’s his first time in claiming company and that’s probably his grade.

“Gavin gave him a great ride and he said going around a bend probably suited him better than running up straights like the Curragh and Cork and just not getting home.

“He’s a sound, fun horse and I’m delighted for Paul and Conor (Pabiroco Syndicate) who have been with this horse a long time and deserve that win.”
