Alamshar signs off with disappointing effort.

Irish Derby winner Alamshar failed in his bid to add the Champion Stakes to his haul of wins, finishing a well beaten sixth of twelve runners in the Newmarket feature.

Alamshar, under Johnny Murtagh, broke slowly but improved to lead five furlongs out. He did, however, hang to the right throughout the 1m2f race and eventually weakened inside the final two furlongs.

Aftwerwards, trainer John Oxx reported 'Johnny (Murtagh) says he slipped leaving the stalls and that he was never really happy with him.'

He added 'he has been on the go all year without a break and that makes it tough for a three-year-old when you get to this stage of the season, but he has done us proud.'

Alamshar will now stand at stud in Japan.
