Almazann off the mark for Weld After four runner-up berths in five outings, Almazann (11/8f) got his turn in the DNG People & Property maiden over a mile at Headquarters. He was just behind Cosmetic and Nemorino straightening for home and picked them off with just over two furlongs to travel. Nemorino refused to go away, though, and was pestering Almazann a furlong down. Almazann asserted in the closing stages for Chris Hayes and went on by a length and three quarters from the 11/2 runner-up. Conrad (22/1) kept on for third, a further three-and-a-half-lengths away. Dermot Weld said: "He deserved that. He's been running into some very decent horses in some of these maidens. We were beat a head (in Cork) by that very good horse of Joseph's (O'Brien, Enceladus) that went on to win at Royal Ascot and Goodwood and was second in the Leger after. "I was confident that he'd win today and I thought he put it together nicely. He had his race won from a long way out. "He just wouldn't be in love with very soft ground. It just blunted his speed a little bit, but he got through it." Additional reporting by John O'Riordan
