Trainer Tom Cooper gained compensation for Shuttle Diplomacy’s Galway defeat yesterday with success in that course’s opening Purchase By 3pm Today To winabmw.ie Mares Maiden Hurdle today, with well-bred Amen Kate (1/3f).

Out of Grade 1-winner Augusta Kate and a granddaughter of undefeated Feathard Lady, debut bumper-winner Augusta Kate finished third on her Listowel hurdling debut last month and today made all under jockey Sam Ewing for a facile win from Rainbow Connection .

Cooper commented “Sam said they hacked around and that she showed some gears from the back of the last. She has loads of boot and I’d say she is only coming to herself, as she was only in six weeks before Listowel. She has so many gears and is back to where she was.

“She had a big procedure done removing an abscess under a tooth in July so was in hospital for a full month. It had been niggling at her all last year but is sorted now. We’ll probably look for a graded race now.”

Cheltenham bumper-third Shuttle Diplomacy was pulled up on his course jumping debut yesterday, and Cooper added “Shuttle Diplomacy disappointed but is ok and I think the ground just wasn’t soft enough for him. He wants a proper dig in the ground and he didn’t jump a hurdle.

“Bryan (son) schooled him over five flights of hurdles the day before, which we always do, and maybe he might have tweaked something. He didn’t seem to do anything wrong in schooling so we’ll send him to Ger Kelly (vet) during the week to get him checked.”
