Another defeat for Sunline

New Zealand`s star mare Sunline suffered her second loss of the campaign when caught in the shadow of the post by Northerly in the John F Feehan Stakes at Moonee Valley, Melbourne today.

Kicked clear by Greg Childs on hitting the straight, Sunline was reeled in by her victor and beaten a long head in the Group 2 mile race.

Leading Australian bookmaker Michael Eskander reacted by promoting Northerly to 2-1 joint favourite with Sunline for next month`s Group 1 Cox Plate.

Sunline, the dual winner of the latter race, was eased quarter of a point from 7-4 in the ensuing market reshuffle.

Childs was philosophical about the defeat.

'She (Sunline) got beaten by a better horse on the day,' he said.
