Antarctic blows rival away in Craven Stormy Antarctic sparked Classic dreams for Ed Walker with an impressive win in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes at Newmarket. John Gosden's odds-on favourite Foundation looked to have everything covered in the hands of Frankie Dettori with two furlongs to run, but he simply had no answer to the impressive winner. George Baker had struggled to settle Stormy Antarctic, who was narrowly beaten in a Group One in France when last seen, as Tony Curtis set only a steady gallop. Dettori seemed to be sitting pretty but Foundation's response when asked for maximum effort was not good enough and Baker moved alongside before pulling away in a matter of strides. The 9-2 shot stretched nicely clear to beat the 4-6 favourite by a clear-cut three and a half lengths. Walker said: "That was awesome, I've always thought the world of him but I never thought he'd win a Craven like that and beat Foundation like that. "He's not the most sexy work horse as he's a very playful and exuberant horse and just does what he has to. "Halfway through I thought he was in trouble on that ground and in this company, but George said it was not too bad and that he just flicked his head around. "To then pick them up and finish as he did was exciting. This was supposed to be our guide to our next race and, god willing, we'll come back in 16 days and hope it rains. "He has very good form on soft ground but I've never thought he was a soft ground horse as he's a very good moving horse and I'd be intrigued to see how he goes on faster ground. "I've never had to prepare a Guineas horse and you only dream of horses like this, these are the reasons you get up at 4.30am, for horses like him. "I never felt we came here for minor honours and he is by far and away the best three-year-old I've got." Gosden said: "Foundation is a mile-and-a-quarter horse, he did get tired on the ground but the winner won very well. "I'm delighted with him, and I'd like to think he'll go for the Dante next."
