Anthem Alexander second in Cheveley Park Eddie Lynam's star juvenile Anthem Alexander put up a brave display in the Connolly's Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket but she could not peg back Tiggy Wiggy. Richard Hughes always appeared supremely confident on the Richard Hannon-trained winner, who was scoring for the sixth time this season in what has been a stellar campaign. She was closely tracked for much of the way by old rival Anthem Alexander, but when Hughes kicked he stole a vital couple of lengths and that proved decisive in the finish. Anthem Alexander tried to claw back the deficit, and while she was closing at the line she never looked quite like getting to the 6-4 favourite and went down by three-quarters of a length. French raider High Celebrity took a keen early hold but ran on for third having been a little short of room at the two-furlong marker, just as Hughes was gathering momentum. Hughes said: "She was brilliant and what she did today was settle really well. I got a very soft lead, I didn't increase the pace until probably 20 metres before the two pole. "She was very good at the start, and the more we can keep the lid on her, the better she is when she jumps. She won quite easily, she does more than that in a morning. "She's definitely four inches bigger than she was in the spring, she's turning into a beautiful filly and it's all credit to the team." Hannon added: "She's a lovely filly and we're delighted. She was bought for £41,000 and is a very good filly - this has shown you can buy a horse for that money and get a top-class one. "We'll look at Paris (Prix de l'Abbaye). I don't know what weight she's got, but I'm sure Hughesie will try to ride her. We'll work something out nearer the time. We'll discuss it, I'd like to think she'll go there. This is her year, she's pretty quick. "The new race at Royal Ascot (three-year-old sprint) gives her an option next year, which she didn't have before." Lynam said of his Queen Mary winner: "She was beaten by a superstar, and it's proved that the three in the Lowther are the best two-year-old fillies around. "She'll go on her holidays now and the new Group One at Royal Ascot will be her big target."
