Apothic Red Stays On Well for Tormey The Tom McCourt-trained Apothic Red (9/1) was a gutsy winner of the Holden Plant Rentals Apprentice Handicap for jockey Sadhbh Tormey. The son of Saxon Warrior was second on his latest start in Sligo and enjoyed the ground conditions to stay on strongly and keep at bay the challenge of Simmering Seas who was flashing home, to score by one and a quarter lengths. Speaking after the race, Tormey said, "Yeah, brilliant, delighted with him. He bounced away smart and I slotted him in handy enough to track the leaders. I just decided to switch him out then, just to give him a bit of daylight. I was in front a little bit too soon. "We put visors on because he was idling that little bit. The last day, he battled on well after he wobbled a little up the straight. Today he knew his job, as soon as we came out of the gates he knew what he was doing.
