Appleby looking to next year with Skiffle Charlie Appleby believes a combination of inexperience and soft conditions contributed to Skiffle failing to show her true colours in the Investec Oaks at Epsom on Friday. Sent off second favourite in the fillies' Classic, for which she was supplemented at a cost of 30,000 pounds after winning a Listed event at Goodwood, the daughter of Dubawi failed to get competitive and finished a well-held fifth. Appleby said: "Basically, the filly showed her inexperience round there. "William's (Buick) first reaction was the ground as it was something she had never incurred before. The pace of the race was very stop-start and you can see that by the time of the race. "That was her third run in four weeks. She has come out of the race fine, but we will now give her a break and regroup late July, early August to see where we are. "She has done nothing wrong this season. We might just run her once more this season and that might be her then done. "She will be a filly that is better as a four-year-old when she has strengthened up."
