Charlie Appleby has his first runners as a trainer for Godolphin on Saturday after being granted a licence by the British Horseracing Authority.

Appleby, 38, has worked for Sheikh Mohammed's operation for almost 15 years and has taken charge at Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket.

Godolphin's other British trainer Saeed bin Suroor had been in temporary control of that stable following the dismissal of disgraced trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni.

Appleby's first runner will be Velvety in the Sky Bet Fillies' Handicap at York followed quickly by Stalactite in Newmarket's Adnams Southwold Bitter EBF Maiden Stakes.

Greek War also runs at Headquarters in the Adnams Spindrift Handicap, while Safety Check in the Listed Titanic Belfast Winkfield Stakes at Ascot is his other first-day runner.
