Ascot fear snow

Tomorrow's meeting at Ascot is under threat due to the forecast of snow.

An 8am inspection has been called by clerk of the course Chris Stickels, with temperatures set to dip way below freezing, although frost covers have been deployed over the whole of the course.

Tomorrow is the first of a two-day meeting with Saturday's card due to feature the Grade One BGC Long Walk Hurdle and the eagerly awaited clash of Big Buck's and Diamond Harry.

"Snow is the problem, although we have covers down," said Stickels.

"The going is good to soft, soft in places but it is forecast to get down to minus three tonight with snow on the way too.

"Snow is always a problem, if you get any amount you just can't race and as the temperatures will not be much above freezing it will not have much chance to thaw. The forecast for Saturday is slightly better but if we get the snow which is forecast we could be struggling."
