Astaire is likely to skip the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh next Saturday and wait for Royal Ascot after his brave run at York on Wednesday.

Kevin Ryan's four-year-old was already having his third run of the season and was beaten just a length into sixth place in the Duke Of York Stakes.

Winner of the Middle Park as a two-year-old, he has returned to his very best this season after struggling, like so many three-year-old sprinters, last season.

"Paul Hanagan's horse (Muthmir) ran very free and they went very quick," Ryan told At The Races.

"He's the sort of horse who likes to quicken at the two and likes horses coming at him and chasing him down.

"I don't think the race was run to suit him but he still ran very creditably and I'm very happy with him.

"I'd say we'll wait till Royal Ascot now."
