Ashdown Express out of Sandown

Newmarket trainer Sean Woods has ruled his promising juvenile Ashdown Express out of the Group Three Ford Solario Stakes at Sandown Park on Saturday.

Following an encouraging third at Nottingham on his debut, Ashdown Express has won his two races since at Newcastle and Beverley in good style to earn entries for the major two-year-old races this autumn.

'He doesn`t run at Sandown,' Woods confirmed today, 'he might run in a conditions race at Salisbury over a mile next Thursday.'

Woods won the Group Two Serpentine Gallery Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot with Atlantis Prince in 2000 and he is hoping Ashdown Express develops into a live contender for this year`s renewal on September 29th.

'This way it`s the natural progression for where we want to go for later in the autumn. We are looking at the Royal Lodge and the Racing Post Trophy. It will depend on how good he is and how he comes on really,' added Woods.

'He`s had a nice break since Beverley. We are bringing him on quietly to try and bring him out early next month with the two big races in mind.

'He`s due to work on Sunday and then we`ll make up our minds about Salisbury.

'Good ground or good to soft - apart from the extremes - would be lovely, He`s pretty straightforward as far as that goes.'
