Ashkal Shows The Way In Belmont Godolphin strengthened their hand in the Breeders' Cup Mile after Ashkal Way dug deep to win a big prize at Belmont on Saturday.The former Brian Ellison inmate, ridden by Mike Lizzi, gamely held off runner-up Free Thinking to win the 250,000 Kelso Breeders' Cup Handicap by a head.It completed a memorable day for the Godolphin operation, who registered a Group-race double at Longchamp.Caradak won the Group One Prix de la Foret, while Echo Of Light it the mark in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein.'We're very happy with the way he finished the race,' said trainer Saeed bin Suroor. 'I think the mile really suits him.'Firmer ground really suits him, and if Ashkal Way is sound after this race, it will be possible for him to go to the Breeders' Cup.'This horse is very tough ? He's a fighter.
