Mr Master Mac a popular winner in the opener at Downpatrick Mr Master Mac justified strong support when getting on top on the run-in to take the opening Randox Maiden Hurdle at Downpatrick. The Mark Fahey-trained gelding, available at 5/2 earlier in the day and sent off the 11/8 favourite, made headway to challenge Cailin Deas approaching the final flight. He soon asserted on the run-in under Tom O’Connor and kept on well to beat Le Questionnaire by two and a half lengths with Cailin Deas unable to find any extra a further six lengths away in third. Fahey said, “He has run around the country tracks and that is why we said we would come down here. He has all that experience. “Tramore especially was a good run. He won his bumper in Sligo and coming up here, we thought he should handle the place, and it is hard to handle it. “He's not the biggest, but he's very athletic and was well bought by James Hughes. Tom was good on him too. “He's agile, he's small, and he can nip around these places. We will stick to the country tracks and try and pick up as many as we can.” Quotes by Michael Graham
