Asphalt Cowboy clearly enjoys Downpatrick and enhanced his record at the northern venue to two from two with victory in the Dennison Commercials Hunters Steeplechase over an extended 3m4f.

Michael Sharpe rode a patient race on the 4/1 chance who moved into second on the home straight. The jockey produced him in the closing stages and he got up by a neck from 11/2 runner-up Gorthill

Sonny Carey said: "He loves it here - up and down, and it suits him.

"Michael gets on great with him and he does a great job on him.

"He's (Sharpe) very, very good, he rode a winner in between for Arthur Moore (Flying Trix, Down Royal) a couple of weeks ago.

"It wouldn't matter what trip, he could win over two miles that lad once he puts his mind to it."
