Ayr overcomes rain to stage Gold Cup card

Latest NewsLatest News

The Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup card was finally given the go-ahead following a second inspection at 1.45pm.

The Scottish track was hit with a deluge of rain overnight and in the morning, with eight millimetres falling in one 40-minute spell.

That left a problem area around half a furlong from the winning post and it was unavoidable.

Clerk of the course Graeme Anderson and officials checked the track at 12.20pm after a second inspection racing was allowed to proceed an hour later than originally scheduled with a revised running order.

The Ayr Silver Cup, Firth of Clyde Stakes and the Gold Cup are now the first three races.
