BRITISH FIXTURES SET TO BEAT WEATHER

Officials at Warwick are "extremely optimistic" that tomorrow's meeting, which features the £40,000 Tote Scoop6 Warwickshire Gold Cup Handicap Chase, will go ahead as planned.

Racecourse manager Christian Leech said this morning: "We haven't had any frost and it has been dry for the last six days.

"A slight frost is forecast for tonight but we are extremely optimistic that racing will go ahead."

There are no reported problems at tomorrow's other turf fixtures at Ascot and Newcastle.

But Carlisle, due to race on Tuesday, is under threat from frost.

Clerk of the course Johnnie Fenwicke-Clennell said: "We couldn't have raced on Wednesday but it is not too bad at the moment.

"But the forecast is for frost so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed."
