BRITISH RACING TO ACT ON FOOT AND MOUTH

A joint announcement from the British Horseracing Board and Jockey Club is expected later today as pressure grows for action in the face of the foot and mouth crisis.

Chepstow`s meeting tomorrow became the second fixture to be lost since the outbreak started after it fell within an exclusion zone.

And although tomorrow`s cards at Wetherby and Lingfield are still scheduled to go ahead, trainers are starting to take unilateral action by closing down their yards until further notice.

A statement on the Jockey Club website this morning said: 'A joint announcement with regards to racing and the `foot and mouth` outbreak will be released later on today.'

Fears are growing that racing will have to be closed down, especially with the Cheltenham Festival just a fortnight away.
