Back-to-back wins for Norman Lee's At The Wings

A winner on his previous start at Navan, At The Wings justified 7/2 favouritism in the first division of Gowran's Racing TV Handicap Hurdle.

The six-year-old, owned by the Stones & Homes Syndicate, improved to lead before halfway and, when challenged after the second-last, pulled out enough to hold off Tudorista by a neck.

“He didn't get a whole pile in the handicap, 7lb, but this was a tricky enough race as there were a couple of last-time-out winners in it as well,” said winning rider Shane O'Callaghan.

“He was plenty keen early, so I thought there was no point in fighting him for two-and-a-half miles.

“He went to the front and parked the bus himself, he pricked his ears and jumped away and when they came to him he quickened.

“He switched off better the last day as we went more of a gallop. Today, we hacked away in front and he was just a bit in my hands after the false starts.

“He did it nicely.”

Alice Gordon, partner of winning trainer Norman Lee, added “Norman is in hospital after a fall, but he'll be okay. It's great for the yard to get that winner.”
