Baily bidding for Aintree glory Mouse Morris hopes the absence of Simonsig from the John Smith's Maghull Novices' Chase at Aintree on Saturday will enable Baily Green to claim the spoils. The seven-year-old rattled off a seven-timer earlier in the season before being saved for a crack at the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival. Having travelled and jumped with aplomb, he just failed to reel in the free-going grey, eventually going down by just over two lengths. While Simonsig is not among the 12 entries for this weekend's Grade One contest, his trainer Nicky Henderson still has a big player in Captain Conan, already a Grade One winner over two miles. Overturn and Grand Annual winner Alderwood are other headline entries. "He'll definitely be going over," said Morris. "There's no Simonsig this time, so we'll see how he goes. "Just for a couple of strides I thought he was going to win the Arkle but I think the flatter track should really suit him. "His jumping is so good, I knew he'd run well. I couldn't understand what price he was compared to Avrika Ligeonniere as there shouldn't have been much between them. Willie's (Mullins) horse obviously didn't run his race. "I'd freshened him up for Cheltenham but he proved early in the season he can handle plenty of racing."
