Trained locally by Yvonne Dunleavy, Ballagh Star proved a popular winner when making most under Daniel King to win the Mongey Communications Handicap Chase at Galway.

Having shaped as though returning to form when fourth at Sligo recently, the eight-year-old was sent to post a well backed 7/2 chance for owner Peter Curran.

Soon in front under King, Ballagh Star jumped and travelled well, keeping on strongly out of the dip to post a 10-length victory.

Daniel King reported: "I won on him in Sligo two years ago and he ran in that same Sligo race six days ago. He came out of that race well.

"In fairness his jumping is very good, he took me through the race well and came up the hill well. His jumping is so good that you can just let him at it.

"That's his third win for connections and is a good horse for them. It was nice to get back on him today, so to win was great."
