Bannow Blaze another one for the locals at Wexford

After Paul Nolan's three winners over the two-day meeting, Bannow Blaze (10/3 fav) was another locally-trained runner to do the business at Wexford as he landed the Slaney View Honda Handicap Hurdle under Eoin Staples.

Runner-up in two of his first three starts in handicaps, the five-year-old grey gradually worked his way through the field and led before two out. A little untidy at that flight, he stayed on well to beat Club Manager by two and a quarter lengths.

The Lucky Speed gelding is trained by Jonathan Fogarty in Cleariestown for the Zero Three Champs Syndicate.

Staples said: "That was brilliant, the owners are local to me at home. I'm only 15 minutes from here and they are not too much further. Johnny and Mikey Fogarty are only a stone's throw away from me at home. It's a local winner and I got a good kick of that.

"The plan was to be patient and I was actually delighted to see them go a right good gallop. He settled early and made a few small mistakes but jumped well on the whole and won well.

"I was confident he'd hold on, as I had plenty of horse going down into the dip and he stayed on well. He was probably unlucky not to get his head in front a couple of times. He had a few consistent efforts and he deserved to win today."
