Baracouda could bid for Ascot repeat

Baracouda, brilliant winner of the Long Walk Hurdle 12 months ago, is among 18 entries for the Stg#55,000 event sponsored by Cantor Sport at Ascot on Saturday week.

Francois Doumen`s high-class staying hurdler beat Deano`s Beeno into second for the third successive year when trouncing him by 14 lengths over the stamina-sapping three-mile trip last December.

Baracouda has already confirmed his liking for the Berkshire track this term by beating Hors La Loi III by nine lengths over two and a half miles last month.

Deano`s Beeno is one of four entries from Martin Pipe`s stable, who has also put the record jumps purchase Magnus in the race.

The five-year-old, who cost owner David Johnson #340,000, has shown smart form in winning four races at Auteuil this autumn.

Bannow Bay (Christy Roche) and Catch Ball (Willie Mullins), who were separated by half-a-length in the Grade One Ballymore Properties Champion Stayers Hurdle at Fairyhouse in April, are the two Irish entries.
