Barefoot Bullet third in Greyhound Derby Final Barefoot Bullet trained by horse/greyhound trainer Paul Hennessy finished third in the English Greyhound Derby Final at Wimbledon tonight. Tipped, when as big as 66/1, by his trainer after he trained Cheers Buddy to win at Gowran in early May, the son of Honcho Classic never really looked like winning and crossed the line in a respectable third. The 7/4fav Taylors Sky for legendary greyhound trainer Charlie Lister (recording his sixth Derby win) led from the start and raced clear of his rivals to win easily at the finish in a track record time of 28.17. In doing so the winner broke the hoodoo that surrounded trap 1 in the Derby as no dog had won from the trap in 26 years. There was a major Irish connection to the winner as Damian Fleming from Co Cork bred the dog who started his racing career in Ireland winning the Rising Fire Open Unraced Stake at Youghal Greyhound Stadium in October of last year.
