Battleforsupremacy (11s to 5/1) landed a gamble to win Dundalk’s Irishinjuredjockeys.com Nursery on handicap debut today, scoring another notable success for young trainer Danny McLoughlin.

Unplaced in four previous maidens, the son of Supremacy was heavily supported in late show prices on today's first all-weather run. Initially racing with the leaders under Scott McCullagh, the gelding quickened clear over a furlong out before eventually holding faster-finishing runner-up Monvoe by a neck.

McLoughlin, recording his eighth success this year, said "in fairness, I had a problem with him in the stalls as he was always constantly slow away but he's a very buzzy horse. The key with him was to get him relax and even early in the race today, he was racing a little bit keen.

"He's by Supremacy and the better surface really helped, along with that distance and being in this 0-60 grade. He has run in some very good maidens and down in Cork he ran very well in September, when not beaten that far.

“He was always learning, came out of a breeze-up yard so the main thing with him was always to get him to relax. The more racing he gets, hopefully the better he will relax. It will help his head.”

He added "I don't have many horses for Dundalk, so hopefully we can have a bit of fun with a few and he will be in the same boat. We can run them away for the winter and he might come back here again. He'll be out of that grade now, so we'll see."
