A good third on his return last month, Bay Of Supremacy went a few places better in His Majesty's Cup Handicap.

A consistent performer since making the breakthrough at Naas in September, the Johnny Murtagh-trained bay was expected to register a second success this evening.

Returned the 11/4 favourite (touched 10/3 early), the 75-rated three-year-old made virtually all under Patrick McGettigan and responded well when ridden with over a furlong to go, ultimately coming home a length-and-a-quarter to the good.

Finishing second after occupying that position for much of the race, Cuban Grey was returned at 9/2, while Aurora Nova (11/1), who won at this fixture 12-months ago, was half-a-length back in third.

"He was (professional), he's a game little horse and he tries his best every day," the winning rider reflected.

"I'd say ground is a massive factor to him, and it looked like a brilliant option coming here today when he was getting weight off the older horses.

"He ended last season really well and he brought the form into this year, only beaten the first day in Naas.

"Again he improved and did that well today."

When asked if he could see him moving through the grades in sprint company, he replied: "Definitely, but I think he is very ground-dependent."
